About Canary & Onion • Field Registry
Real lives. Cold counts. Sharp layers. Your voice.
Canary & Onion is an independent record of modern friction. I document what happens when normal, daily life collides with tidy government statistics and institutional claims.
I’m not a policy pundit, an armchair expert, or a think-tank researcher—just a curious person at a keyboard reading the fine print, pulling apart crunchy data, and trying to make sense of everyday reality.

The Anatomy of a Dispatch
Five pieces to the puzzle: testing tidy official counts against the mess of real life.

01 / Warning
The Canary
The Real-World Reality. Putting boots on the ground to see what’s actually happening. With the official numbers setting the topic, I listen to the room—pulling from local reporting, online discussions, and everyday chatter to hear what’s really going on. The Canary is that lived reality on the ground, before any institution has polished it into a press release.

02 / The Ledger
The Cage
The Cold Ledger. Official metrics, administrative data, and unbending counts from Eurostat, the OECD, and public registers. I don’t cherry-pick countries to make a point: when Eurostat tables are used, I take the most recent reliable figures available and benchmark #1 directly against #27—or the full range of whatever dataset is on the table—letting the spread speak for itself. The Cage is the cold, fixed dataset that locks the boundaries in place.

03 / The Layers
The Onion
Peeling the Layers. What the policy briefs and official explanations would have us believe. Every issue is wrapped in twisting lanes of cause, effect, and institutional spin. Peeling back those layers brings the contradictions to the surface so we can see how they measure up against ground reality. There are so many layers we may never reach the very core on our own—and that’s exactly where your insights and local context in the comments help untangle the knot.

04 / Action
The Open Door
Where Do We Go From Here? Sitting back after taking all of this in and asking the honest question: so what do we actually do with that? It’s about cutting through the quagmire of policy briefs and street noise to look for tangible footing. If we had a magic wand to make an actual dent in the way things are run, where would we even begin to push? The Open Door is about spotting those first practical openings—instead of getting stuck in the mud, or locked right back in the cage.

05 / The Verdict
The Song
The Reader’s Verdict. This isn’t just me talking to myself. Every piece ends with a reader ballot and an open floor in the comments. Tell me where I’ve got it right, where I’m dead wrong, and what I’ve missed. Your stories and perspectives fill in the real picture—making the lived reality far richer and more complete than anything I could piece together on my own.

Public Covenant
The Promise
A Quiet Corner on the Web. I built this because I’m exhausted by the modern internet—cookie mazes where you need detective work just to say “No,” shifting ads that tire your eyes before the first scroll, and invasive tracking just to leave a comment. This is a site I’d actually want to visit: verified public data, zero ads, no tracking, and complete privacy when you speak up. Consider yourself a protected species here.

THE DISPATCH DROP —
Slip Me a Lead
Heard an official figure that sounds like nonsense on the ground? Drop it here. I’ll check the records—if it’s solid, it becomes my next post.
Stored locally in my queue. I never record IP addresses or digital fingerprints.
